4800 bits per second serial analog modems with semi-automatic line equalization. One of a family of "new generation" modems introduced in the '70s after most of the Bell System network facilities had migrated to digital T-1 carrier with channel banks such as D1,D2, D3. Used on both dedicated private line (208A) and DDD switched network (208B) applications.
